It’s official: Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling and hit director Shawn Levy are taking their first big leap into the Star Wars galaxy, and fans couldn’t be more thrilled. Their surprise appearance at the Star Wars Celebration had everyone buzzing — not just because of the news, but also because of the energy, excitement, and yes, a special shoutout from Ryan’s mom.
The big announcement? They’re working on a brand-new Star Wars movie called Starf Fighter — an all-new adventure set after Episode IX in a never-before-seen era of the galaxy. And the best part? It’s not just in development. As Ryan confidently said:
“We’re not developing… we’re shooting. This fall. The movie comes out on May 27, 2027.”
Yep, they’re already in pre-production, and the countdown has begun.
A Warm Welcome to the Galaxy
Fans in Tokyo gave Ryan and Shawn a roaring welcome as they stepped on stage, with hosts cheering,
“Welcome to Navarro, make yourself cozy!”
The duo looked visibly excited — and maybe a little overwhelmed — by the outpouring of love.
Shawn said:
“There’s truly no place like Star Wars Celebration. Being here, with all of you, reminds us why we’re making this movie — and who we’re making it for.”
Ryan added, “It’s a dream come true. Star Wars has been in my life since I was a kid. It shaped how I saw movies. I even had Empire Strikes Back bed sheets!”
(Side note: his mom actually sent in a photo of those bed sheets to celebrate his big moment.)
New Galaxy, New Story, Same Star Wars Heart
While they couldn’t reveal too much (because, you know... spoilers), they did drop some exciting hints:
-
New characters
-
A brand-new starship design glimpsed during the reveal
-
Fresh worlds
-
And a storyline that’s not a sequel or a prequel
Shawn explained:
“It’s a chance to bring everything we love about Star Wars — the heart, the action, the fun — but tell a completely original story in a time and place fans haven’t seen before.”
Ryan couldn’t stop praising the script either:
“It’s full of adventure, heart, and originality. And honestly, there’s no one better to bring it to life than Shawn.”
The Message to Fans: ‘We’re One of You’
When asked if they had any message for fans, both artists were quick to say —
“We’re fans too. We grew up with Star Wars. We’ve lived in those seats, just like you.”
Ryan ended with a perfect line (printed on his hat, no less):
“Don’t tell us the odds.”
Their belief? The Force isn’t just in the movies — it’s in the fans.
“May the fans be with us,” Ryan said with a smile.
Mark Your Calendars: May 27, 2027
With filming starting this fall and a 2027 release, we’ve got a little time to wait — but based on the energy they brought to the Celebration stage, this new Star Wars movie is shaping up to be something truly special.
Stay tuned — the galaxy just got bigger, bolder, and way more exciting.
