Fast bowler Khurram Shahzad’s four-wicket haul left Bangladesh in deep trouble at 75-6, struggling to avoid the follow-on by lunch on day three of the second Test.
Shahzad took 4 wickets for just 15 runs, while fellow pacer Mir Hamza added 2 wickets for 29 runs, as Bangladesh crumbled to 26-6 in response to Pakistan’s first-innings total of 274. The match has been disrupted by rain, with the entire first day being washed out.
By the lunch break on day three, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Litton Das were attempting to rebuild Bangladesh’s innings, putting together an unbeaten 49-run partnership. Mehidy played aggressively, scoring 33 off 48 balls, hitting seven boundaries, while Litton contributed 13. Bangladesh still needs 49 more runs to avoid the follow-on, with just four wickets remaining.
The day began with Bangladesh at 10-0, but they quickly lost wickets in a dramatic collapse. Shahzad removed opener Zakir Hasan for 1, before bowling Shadman Islam (10) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (1) in quick succession. Hamza joined the attack, dismissing Mominul Haque for 1 and Mushfiqur Rahim for 3. Shahzad then trapped Shakib Al Hasan lbw for 2, leaving Bangladesh in disarray at 26-6, before Mehidy and Das began their resistance.
Bangladesh leads the two-match series 1-0, having won the first Test in Rawalpindi by 10 wickets, securing their first-ever victory over Pakistan in 14 encounters.
